Following the acquisition of Jamie Malonzo in a trade with NorthPort, Barangay Ginebra has formed an athletic duo.
Malonzo is expected to collaborate with Jeremiah Gray after the trade, but don’t expect to see the partnership in the near future.
Ginebra coach Tim Cone said that while Gray, 26, has been practicing, he is still far from fully recovered from an ACL injury sustained while playing for TNT in the PBA 3×3.
“He’s still malayo,” Cone stated. “Malayo pa.”
Ginebra will make its assembly debut against Converge on Sunday, but only Malonzo will be eligible to play.
Due to his injury, Gray was selected second overall by Terrafirma in the recent draft. Gray was eventually traded to Ginebra in exchange for fellow rookie Javi Gomez de Liano and a future pick.
Ginebra also acquired Malonzo in a trade, in exchange for Arvin Tolentino, Prince Caperal, and future draft picks.
Gray will most likely return by October if everything goes as planned, according to Cone.
“Later October, pa, if everything goes as planned.” “He’s still a long way away,” Cone said.
Cone, on the other hand, stated that Gray has been participating in practice to learn the team’s offensive and defensive plays.
“He is learning by observation.” But at this point, we can’t put him on anything strenuous that will put his knee to the test. “He’s still medyo malayo from where we wanted him,” Cone said.
