On July 17, Bacolod City Mayor Albee Benitez hosted a dinner-press conference for the visiting teams and entourage of Manny Pacquiao’s Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) 2022 Season home games at the Government Center lobby.
Mayor Benitez welcomed the competing teams of Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines, Valenzuela MJAS Zenith, Bacolod Bingoplus (All-Star Bacolod Ballers -ABB), and Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards.
MPBL Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes stated that they brought the best four teams to Bacolod City to put on a good show for the Bacoleños.
He invited everyone, especially basketball fans, to come watch the game between the different teams from different provinces. Duremdes expressed hope that this will inspire children to participate in sports, particularly basketball.
“It’s been two years since the MBPL set a game in Bacolod City,” Duremdes said, adding that they are excited and dedicated to providing a good game to the people of Bacolod.
He stated that they chose Bacolod City because Bacoleños enjoy basketball. Everyone is welcome to play as long as they have their vaccination cards and follow the health protocols, according to him.
He also stated that they expect the venue to be packed and that they are prepared in case of an emergency.
Duremdes expressed hope that more games will be held in Bacolod, and that if possible, the All-Star Game will be held in the city; this is already being discussed within the organization.
The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) is a men’s professional basketball league in the Philippines founded by Manny Pacquiao while he was a member of Congress.
