Group A of the inaugural East Asia Super League 2022-23 is shaping up to be a doozy.
It will also center on the Philippines’ top team and three Filipino players who are currently playing abroad.
Due to the luck of the draw, reigning PBA Philippine Cup champion San Miguel will face Filipino prospects Rhenz Abando and Sedrick Barefield, as well as an old foe in Jay Washington.
The eventual Philippine Cup champion was drawn in Group A alongside Taipei Fubon, Ryukyu, and Anyang KGC on June 28 at the Shangri-La at the Fort in Manila.
Rhenz Abando was signed by Anyang KGC a month after the draw. The Beermen then defeated the TNT Tropang Giga in an epic seven-game series to be named in the pool last week.
The Golden Kings and Braves both signed Washington and Barefield a week after the PBA Finals.
Every game in the group will undoubtedly be worth watching. And the fighting will begin on October 12th, when the Beermen meet Abando in Anyang.
According to Tiebreaker Times, when Washington’s contract expires on December 31, Ryukyu will sign “one of the best prospects in the collegiate level.“
