The United States has dominated the Presidents Cup since its inception in 1994, going 11-1-1 in 13 meetings. The 2022 edition appears to be no different, with the American team heavy favorites heading into the event.
The Presidents Cup will be held for the first time since 2019 on Thursday, September 22 through Sunday, September 25.
The two teams will compete in 30 matches over the course of four days of match play. Each team has 12 golfers.
With Davis Love III as captain, Team USA is the clear favorite in this edition. Despite some setbacks for captain Trevor Immelman, the International team still has some great players on its roster.
The 2022 Presidents Cup will be held at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Notes on the field
The teams have been finalized. Here is a look at both rosters.
Team USA | International Team |
---|---|
Patrick Cantlay | Hideki Matsuyama |
Sam Burns | Sungjae Im |
Justin Thomas | Tom Kim |
Scottie Scheffler | Corey Conners |
Xander Schauffele | Mito Pereira |
Tony Finau | Adam Scott |
Cameron Young | Taylor Pendrith |
Billy Horschel | Sebastian Munoz |
Collin Morikawa | Si Woo Kim |
Kevin Kisner | Cam Davis |
Jordan Spieth | Christiaan Bezuidenhout |
Max Homa | K.H. Lee |
The US was thrown a curveball when Will Zalatoris was ruled out due to a back injury. The International team, on the other hand, is missing three players: Cameron Smith, Joaquin Niemann, and Anirban Lahiri, who were ruled ineligible after joining LIV Golf.
Team USA won 16-14 in 2019, but will not be returning Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, or Bryce DeChambeau, who are all now on the LIV Golf Tour.
Team USA (-700)
The United States is considered the betting favorite entering the event by a wide margin, which is not surprising. Scheffler, Cantlay, Schauffele, Thomas, and Morikawa are among the five players on the roster who are currently ranked in the OWGR Top 10. It would have been six if Zalatoris had been able to play.
Kevin Kisner, the team’s lowest-ranked golfer, is ranked 26th in the world, higher than six of the ten players on the International roster.
On paper, the United States has a significant advantage. In 2022, Scheffler and Thomas both won major championships, which no one from the Internationals can claim.
Internationals (+700)
Despite their status as significant underdogs, the International team is far from anonymous. Matsuyama and Scott are both former Masters champions, and the rest of the team has had a successful PGA Tour season.
Nonetheless, the teams appear to be very disparate. Losing the reigning Open Championship winner, Cam Smith, only adds to the chasm. Given Team USA’s pedigree, the odds gap should be even greater than it is now. That is not to dismiss the Internationals, but to highlight how the star power is more visible on the other side.
History was already against the International team, which had only won once (in 1998) since the event’s inception in 1994.
